For his 50th anniversary exhibition, Okawara Kunio painted God Gundam on Victoria Peak, looking out over the city. Memorigin built a tourbillon around that painting.
Victoria Peak
A painting made for the city
Okawara drew this scene specially for the Hong Kong exhibition: God Gundam atop Victoria Peak, the harbour spread below. It was unveiled there in two lights, day and dusk. On the watch it becomes a skeleton dial carved in gold-coloured metal, the machine caught as it enters Hyper Mode.

Hidden in the markers
The hour markers trace the plates of God Gundam's helmet. One is set with a ruby: the chest armour that shows only once Hyper Mode is engaged. Silver steel case and bracelet frame a blue movement, so the tourbillon turns in full view, as mechanical as the machine itself.
Plate 02 · Yatterman
Another Okawara machine
Yatterman is a Tatsunoko series, not Gundam, yet its robot dog Yatter-Wan was also drawn by Okawara. Here he stretches across a skeleton dial, his collar forming the outer ring, beside Okawara's signature. The tourbillon turns between Yatter-Wan and the dice robot Omochama, like the wheels on his feet.

In 1979 Okawara drew the RX-78-2 for Mobile Suit Gundam, and generations of anime fans have grown up with his machines since. Hong Kong marked his fiftieth anniversary in 2023. Every watch in the series comes with a certificate bearing his own signature, and the first twenty buyers met him in person at Ocean Park.

Memorigin made the series with PPW Group, organiser of the exhibition at Ocean Park from 1 April to 4 June 2023. At the launch ceremony, William Shum presented Okawara with a GOD GUNDAM tourbillon. At the VIP signing, Okawara signed the strap of William's own Yatterman.

The rifle and the shield
Memorigin's Gundam story began in 2015, with the machine Okawara drew in 1979. The dial wears the RX-78-2's red, yellow, blue and white, with its head in metal relief and a sculpted spaceship. The hour hand is the beam rifle; the minute hand is the shield. It came in a box modelled on the ship.
