The designer who drew Gundam drew Hong Kong: God Gundam on Victoria Peak, looking over the city. Memorigin made it a tourbillon.
Memorigin is a watchmaker devoted to the tourbillon.
Introduction
Okawara Kunio drew the RX-78-2 for Mobile Suit Gundam in 1979. For fifty years since, the machines he draws have been the ones anime fans grow up with.
In 2023 Hong Kong held his anniversary exhibition, and he painted something for the city: God Gundam standing on Victoria Peak, looking out over the harbour, once by day and once at dusk. It was shown for the first time at the exhibition.
Plates
God Gundam takes its dial from the painting: skeletonised and carved in gold-coloured metal, the machine caught in Hyper Mode.

Steel case and bracelet over a blue movement. The markers from 10 to 2 follow the plates of God Gundam’s helmet; at 12, a ruby sets the chest armour that opens only in Hyper Mode.

Yatterman is a Tatsunoko series, not Gundam; Okawara designed both. Yatter-Wan, the robot dog, spans a skeleton dial, his collar forming the outer ring, Okawara’s signature at 6. The tourbillon turns where the dog’s wheeled feet would be.

In Gundam’s red, yellow, blue and white. The head in metal relief at 12, the mothership on the star disc at 3, power reserve at 9. It shipped in a case modelled on the ship.
The hour hand is the beam rifle. The minute hand is the shield.

The Father of Gundam Okawara Kunio 50th Anniversary Exhibition ran at Ocean Park, Hong Kong, from 1 April to 4 June 2023. Memorigin made the watches with its organiser, PPW Group. The first twenty buyers met Okawara there on 1 April.
At the opening, founder William Shum handed him a God Gundam tourbillon. At the VIP signing, Okawara signed the strap of William’s own Yatterman.
Every watch comes with its own paper sleeve and a certificate signed by Okawara himself.
