Ace Tourbillon Watch Launch Event

Hong Kong’s first wheelchair badminton athlete, Daniel Chan Ho Yuen, who officially retired last year, has collaborated with Memorigin, the renowned Hong Kong tourbillon watch brand, to create the “Ace” Tourbillon Watch —an exceptional timepiece inspired by his remarkable life story. To commemorate this milestone, the brand hosted the “Ace Tourbillon Watch Launch Event” at the prestigious Hong Kong Watch & Clock Fair 2025, celebrating the indomitable spirit of Hong Kong. Daniel’s wife and mother were also present to lend their heartfelt support.

At the age of 23, Daniel was involved in a traffic accident that resulted in the loss of his left leg. The incident once left him disheartened and lost, but it was badminton that led him out of the shadows and ignited his journey as a full-time athlete. Representing Hong Kong for 16 years, he competed in nearly 500 international matches and claimed over 80 medals on the global stage. Daniel’s inspiring journey embodies the unwavering spirit of Hong Kong and has motivated countless individuals. Committed to promoting sports culture and championing the Hong Kong spirit, Memorigin invited Daniel to collaborate on a timepiece. Drawing inspiration from his remarkable athletic career, they launched the Ace Tourbillon Watch, with the hope of encouraging more people with disabilities to confront challenges with strength and determination through his story.

At the event, William Shum, Founder and CEO of Memorigin, praised Daniel as a true pride of Hong Kong, which is why the brand invited him to co-create this timepiece. Through this watch, his remarkable journey is preserved, while also raising public awareness of people with disabilities and fostering social integration.

Daniel expressed his great excitement at the opportunity to launch a tourbillon watch. He wished to incorporate significant elements from his sporting career into the design. After in-depth discussions with Memorigin’s design team, the “Ace” Tourbillon Watch was ultimately brought to life. The skeleton dial incorporates deeply meaningful elements from Daniel’s life: at 12 o’clock rests a symbolic motif of his wheelchair ; at 3 and 9 o’clock, two medal-like metal reliefs—one in silver, the other in bronze—are delicately engraved with shuttlecock and racket motifs, symbolising the medals he claimed at the international events held in Paris 2024 and Tokyo 2020.

The timepiece is powered by a tourbillon movement composed of 193 parts and 27 jewels, offering an 80-hour power reserve and operating at a frequency of 28,800 vibrations per hour—ensuring exceptional precision and stability. Renowned for its structural complexity and demanding craftsmanship, the tourbillon at 6 o’clock rotates continuously, symbolising the years of tireless training an athlete endures to refine their skills and surpass limits. This relentless pursuit of excellence is truly worthy of admiration.
