60 Years of Uniting for Dreams Tourbillon Watch Launch Event

As a Hong Kong brand committed to social responsibility, Memorigin has long dedicated itself to supporting charitable causes and giving back to the community. To celebrate the 60th anniversary of the Hong Chi Association, Memorigin collaborated with the association to launch the 60 Years of Uniting for Dreams Tourbillon Watch, officially unveiled at the prestigious Hong Kong Watch & Clock Fair 2025. The launch event was graced by the presence of Mr. Edward Yau, GBS, JP, Chairman of the Hong Chi Association Council, Mr. Lawrence Lam, Director of Memorigin, and artist Aka Chio.

The event also featured a video message from Mr. William Shum, Founder and CEO of Memorigin, who was unable to attend in person. He reflected on the success of last year’s Memorigin x Hong Chi Association — 60 Years of Uniting for Dreams Tourbillon Dial Design Competition, which received remarkable responses. This year, Memorigin has transformed the winning artwork into an exquisite tourbillon timepiece—an endeavor that not only continues to promote the mission of the Hong Chi Association but also encourages students to express themselves and showcase their creativity and talent through art.

In his address, Mr. Edward Yau expressed gratitude to Memorigin for its support, emphasizing the importance of raising awareness and fostering acceptance of people with disabilities. He noted that this cross-sector collaboration carries profound meaning in cultivating a more inclusive and compassionate society.

The dial design competition attracted 110 students and members of the Hong Chi Association. Serving as both event ambassador and jury member, Aka Chio shared her admiration for the entries, praising their vivid creativity and joyful colors that uplifted her mood. Having recently studied art therapy, she remarked: “Through painting, one can express emotions, explore the inner self, and relieve stress. It is truly meaningful, and I hope to continue my studies to become an art therapist in the future.” She was later presented with a certificate of appreciation by Mr. Edward Yau and Mr. Lawrence Lam in recognition of her contribution and support.

The winning piece, Happy Land, was created by Cheung Ki Chun, a student from the Hong Chi Winifred Mary Cheung Morninghope School. She conveyed her emotions through a rich variety of motifs—stars, sunshine, clouds, flowers, trees, insects, and smiling faces in various shapes—all interwoven with pastel hues, lines, and dots. A closer look reveals 60 hidden smiling faces, symbolizing cheerful school life, the care of teachers, friendships with classmates, and her own feelings of joy. Inspired by her daily experiences, this vibrant creation became the foundation of Happy Land, commemorating the 60th anniversary of the Hong Chi Association.

Memorigin meticulously translated the award-winning artwork onto the dial of the 60 Years of Uniting for Dreams Tourbillon Watch, extending the student’s creativity into the realm of fine watchmaking craftsmanship. With every timepiece sold, part of the proceeds will be donated to the Hong Chi Association to support its services for individuals of different ages and levels of intellectual disability, imbuing the collaboration with even greater social value. To commemorate the partnership and the Association’s 60th anniversary, Mr. Lawrence Lam presented one 60 Years of Uniting for Dreams Tourbillon Watch to the Association, which was accepted by Mr. Edward Yau on its behalf.

The event concluded with Aka Chio and Ms. Zuie Lin, General Secretary of the Hong Chi Association, presenting certificates to the ten merit awardees, while Mr. Lawrence Lam and Mr. Edward Yau awarded trophies and gifts to the champion Cheung Ki Chun, first runner-up Chow Chiu Ming, and second runner-up Chiu Wing Keung. On behalf of Cheung Ki Chun, teacher Ms. Ko Mei Yee received the award along with a 60 Years of Uniting for Dreams Tourbillon Watch—a timepiece of profound commemorative significance.
